How to Read an Object: focus on Ancient Peru
Workshop | October 19 | 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. | Hearst Museum of Anthropology
, Berkeley, CA
Christine Hastorf, UC Berkeley, Anthropology
What can physical artifacts teach us about past human interactions, activities, and beliefs? How can you teach your students to analyze and infer meanings from objects?
Teachers are invited to come explore a selection of objects from the Hearst Museum of Anthropology.
Professor Christine Hastorf will select a set of objects from the museum's collection and work with you to analyze what they reveal about the ancient Andean region.
The subject matter of the workshop is most closely aligned with the 7th grade social studies curriculum, but all K-12 and community college instructors are welcome to participate. There is no cost to attend. This program is offered jointly by the Hearst Museum of Anthropology and ORIAS (the Office of Resources for International and Area Studies) and will take place at the Hearst Museum at UC Berkeley. Space is limited to 16 teachers.
