TRUST Security Seminar: Making the Internet Safer One Protocol at a Time

Seminar | October 3 | 1-2 p.m. | Soda Hall, Wozniak Lounge

 Andy Steingruebl, PayPal

Team for Research in Ubiquitous Secure Technology (TRUST)

Since 2007 PayPal/Ebay have been at the forefront of fixing seemingly intractable internet security problems one by one. Starting with a concerted focus on preventing/reducing phishing, the teams have moved on to tackle other large internet security challenges including problems with HTTPS, the Global PKI, aspects of mashup security, and now improving online authentication through the FIDO alliance. The speaker will talk about the multitude of approaches taken to solving these challenges including public policy, technical standards, and pushing the adoption of security techniques such as HTTP Strict Transport Security and DMARC.
