Cinefication in Three Scenes
Lecture | April 25 | 5:15-6:45 p.m. | Stephens Hall, Geballe Room, 220
This talk will diagnose and theoretically elaborate the notion of realitys general cinefication by drawing on a range of post-WWII experimental and documentary film practices and spectatorial experiences. Questions pertaining to the politics of East European filmmaking in the age of moving images ubiquity will be explored through the consideration of works by Zelimir Zilnik, Bojan Jovanovic, Bora Cosic, Tomislav Gotovac, Slobodan Sijan, and others. Particular attention will be paid to the manner in which the rise of ethno-nationalist ideology in late 1980s Yugoslavia was captured and critically exposed in some extraordinary, but little known, films from that era.
