Jennifer Granholm will present the Weinstock lecture on November 9, 2018. Her lecture is titled "Shaping a 21st Century Workforce – Is AI Friend or Foe?" The lecture is free and open to the public. No tickets are required.

About the lecture
Jennifer M. Granholm teaches Public Policy at UC Berkeley’s Goldman School and is the chair of the American Jobs Project, a multi-state research initiative on creating industrial clusters in clean energy. As a member of Berkeley’s Work in the Age of Intelligent Tools workgroup, she has been researching ways to ensure that automation and AI are not threats to equality, but enablers of it. This accessible, energetic lecture will identify some of the most interesting policy ideas to address the problems of displaced workers, the skills gap and resulting inequality in an age of robots and artificial intelligence.

About Jennifer Granholm
As the former 47th governor of Michigan Jennifer M. Granholm led the state through a period of unprecedented economic challenge and change. Granholm became the first woman to be elected as governor of Michigan in 2002, and in 2006 she was re-elected with the largest number of votes ever cast for governor in the state. Granholm was Governor of Michigan until 2011. Prior to being elected governor, she served as Michigan Attorney General from 1998-2002.

After leaving public office, Granholm joined the faculty at University of California, Berkeley, as a Distinguished Adjunct Professor at Berkeley Law and the Goldman School of Public Policy and as a Senior Research Fellow at Berkeley Energy and Climate Institute (BECI), and the Center for Information Technology Research in the Interest of Society (CITRIS). In addition, Granholm is a senior contributor to CNN, is the Managing Partner for the Sustainability Group of Ridge-Lane, LLC, is the CEO of Granholm Mulhern Associates, and serves on several boards of start-up companies and nonprofit organizations. She is also the co-author of the political bestseller, A Governor’s Story: The Fight for Jobs and America’s Economic Future, and was co-chair Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential transition team.

Granholm is an honors graduate of University of California, Berkeley (1984) and Harvard Law School (1987). She has honorary degrees from the University of Michigan, Wayne State University, Marygrove College, and Michigan State University. She has received dozens of awards for her leadership over her years in public service. Granholm is an honors graduate of both the University of California, Berkeley and Harvard Law School.
