Performing Arts - Theater | April 27 | 7:30-9:30 p.m. | The Marsh Theater
The Marsh Theater presents Eating Pasta off the Floor in conjunction with the series A Tale of Two Women from postwar Italian cinema to human rights today.
All the programs in this series pay tribute to the lingering memory of an historic war crime that occurred after the Battle of Monte Cassino. The popularity of Vittorio De Sicas Two Women, in particular, has left an enduring imprint on how the war experience of southern Italy has been imagined and remembered. Italian-American playwright Maria Grazia Affinito reveals its far reach in her award-winning monodrama Eating Pasta off the Floor (2013). Affinito reenacts how, with the help of De Sicas film, she came to learn of her Italian mothers victimization during World War II. Her moving tribute to her mothers life illustrates how rape victims become survivors, and how later generations can support that effort.
