Student Arithmetic Geometry Seminar: The Picard groups of moduli problems

Seminar | March 24 | 2-3 p.m. | 736 Evans Hall

 Kat Christianson, UC Berkeley

 Department of Mathematics

The goal of this talk is to give a direct computation of the Picard group of the moduli space of elliptic curves. We first define this moduli space without using the language of stacks. We then follow an argument of Mumford (1963) to compute the Picard group of the moduli space.
