 Neil Goldberg

 Jacobs Institute for Design Innovation

About Design Field Notes:
Each informal talk in this pop-up series brings a design practitioner to a Jacobs Hall teaching studio to share ideas, projects, and practices.

About this talk:
Neil Goldberg has over three decades of experience designing, leading design teams, consulting, and teaching design. After working on pioneering design research teams at Herman Miller early in his career, he co-founded Praxis Design, an award-winning product design and development agency with clients ranging from Oral-B to the LA Times. Since then, he has founded and led design and innovation practices at several organizations, including WorkClub, an originator of co-working, and SMASHSolar, where he currently serves as Chief Design Officer.

At the Jacobs Institute, he will give a talk titled "Design Matters: From Design Consciousness to Design Thinking." From Goldberg: "In just a few decades design has emerged to a central place in our culture and a key methodology for the creation of everything. Yet the evolutionary origins of design are little know, obscuring its instinctual nature. Through a review of the prehistory of design I will trace the arc of how I think that design practice will continue to unfold as an industrial practice as well as in mainstream culture."
