Navigating Unconscious Bias

Seminar | April 24 | 105 Stanley Hall

Cat Adams and Linet Mera, Unconscious Bias Project

 Thriving in Science

Most people don’t want to be racist, sexist, or prejudiced in general. Yet simply living in the world exposes everyone to negative stereotypes about various groups of people, which can lead anyone to internalize harmful “unconscious bias” and accidentally discriminate against people they consciously respect. We’ll review how to recognize unconscious bias, give you tips to reduce bias in your daily life, and talk about how to reduce bias in the workplace. We will have a presentation and time for discussion - so bring your creative voices!
