The Eighth Berkeley Carillon Festival, honoring the Class of 1928, the donors of the carillon, celebrates a century of bells at Berkeley.

The weekend of July 28 and 29 will feature recitals by Berkeley performers, music written for the Berkeley carillon by Berkeley composers and others.

Featured performers will include University Carillonist Jeff Davis, and Berkeley carillonists David Hunsberger, Wesley Arai, Leslie Chan, Erika Anderson and others.

On Saturday July 28 there will be two 45 minute recitals commencing at noon and 1pm.

On Sunday July 29 there will be two recitals commencing at 2pm and 3pm.

The original twelve bells were a gift of Jane K. Sather for whom Sather Tower is named. They were installed in 1918, and first played on November 3, 1918. An additional forty-eight bellswere given by the Class of 1928, and a final enlargement to the current sixty-one bells carillon was done in 1983, a gift of Jerry and Evelyn Chambers.

The best listening places are in Faculty Glade by Morrison Hall and the Campanile Esplanade. For inquiries please contact ucbells@berkeley.edu
