In this session, Iâll summarize what I expect will be the most significant near-term (next ten years) applications for machine learning in the context of archives and special collections, building on a brief essay I wrote over the summer for the International Council on Archives; in this discussion, Iâll focus in particular on the architecture of facial recognition systems and how these may interact with collections, including privacy and ethical issues.
