Claire Willing, PhD Candidate, Department of Environmental Science, Policy, and Management

 KALX 90.7FM

Tune in for this special fundraiser episode of The Graduates as we speak with Claire Willing, graduate student in the Department of Environmental Policy, Science, and Management (ESPM). Claire studies the most quintessential of Californian topics: redwood trees! Claire's research focuses on the symbiotic relationship between redwood trees and fungus in California, known as mycorrhizae. In the interview, Claire talks about the 'mycobiome' of redwoods, and her passion for science outreach and education. Claire also describes her experiences climbing hundreds of feet into the canopy to study these incredible trees. It's all about redwoods on The Graduates!

The Graduates, featuring graduate student research at Cal, is broadcast every other Tuesday on KALX 90.7 FM. Past episodes are available to listen and download free on iTunes or online. The Graduates is hosted by Tesla Monson, postdoctoral scholar in the Department of Integrative Biology.
