Seminar | October 14 | 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. | 290 Hearst Memorial Mining Building
Charlotta Johnsson, Lund University
Abstract: The pace of change has never been this fast .. yet it will never again be this slow (source unknown). This implies that there will be major shifts in our society, including industry and manufacturing. Some even speak about a fourth industrial revolution. We find many names for those we love, hence commonly used terms for this shift include: Smart industry, Smart manufacturing, Industrie 4.0, Industrie du Future, Factory of the Future, Society 5.0, etc.
History repeats itself, and with certain regularity new technologies pop up and pave the ground for a new wave of innovations. When the effects of the new innovations are large enough or disruptive, they will revolutionize the current norm of how things are seen and done. In industry, this is about to happen for the fourth time.
In the past, manufacturing and industrial production was simply about making products for people who wanted to buy them. Today, its about changing industry and the society we live in with technical solutions and new business models, that add customer value and meet challenging sustainability goals.
In this seminar we will speak about Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, about the fourth industrial revolution and about the United Nation sustainable development goal nr 9.
