More about this event:

Speaker: Ronelle Alexander

This talk focuses on the methodology behind the making and the distinctive features of the interactive database “Bulgarian Dialectology as Living Tradition” that presents excerpts of natural dialect speech recording in 68 different villages throughout Bulgaria. The excerpts were chosen to illustrate both the major features of each dialect, and to convey cultural content of interest. Each excerpt is transcribed (in two different scripts), is translated into English, and is annotated at several levels. Users interested in cultural content have direct access not only to the transcript but also to the audio of each text, while users interested in linguistic analysis can perform a number of different specific searches of the data contained on the site.
