The Numbers, Operations, and Proportional Relationships Institute will focus on strategies and techniques that prepare students for success in Pre-Algebra and Algebra 1 by helping them see connections between seemingly unrelated topics, solve challenging problems that deepen understanding of key math concepts, and smooth the transition between numerical and algebraic thinking . As we engage with content from the numerous relevant CCSSM domains in the K-8 grade range, we will remain mindful of the eight Standards for Mathematical Practice, which define mathematical proficiency. Academic language development, particularly for English learners, will be integrated throughout, and equity, social justice, and classroom management concerns will be addressed.
