UID:46500-ucb-events-calendar@berkeley.edu
ORGANIZER;CN="UC Berkeley Calendar Network":
LOCATION:101 2251 College (Archaeological Research Facility)
DESCRIPTION:Flavio G Silva de la Mora\, Anthropology\, UC Berkeley\n\nStudy of lithic material from the site of Chinikihá in Chiapas provides information crucial to understanding human interaction\, movement\, and exchange of the Classic Maya. Recent excavation of lithic workshops in Chinikihá\, along with previous research on communication routes and settlement patterns in the region\, offers a unique opportunity to understand exchange between and around the ceremonial centers of Palenque and Chinikihá in the Northwestern Mayan Lowlands of Mexico. XRF analysis of obsidian will provide new insight into trade and communication routes throughout the Mayan regions of Mexico and Guatemala. Future research at Chinikihá will delve deeper into lithic production and control of resources at the site.
