Join other Bay Area teachers in a series of three workshops sponsored by the Santa Clara COE in partnership with UCBHSSP. The sessions will help teachers explore and start implementing the new California History-Social Science Framework with an emphasis on the Framework's encouragement of student civic engagement.

Attendance in the entire series is highly recommended but not required. All sessions will be held at the Santa Clara County Office of Education.

Session 1 - Saturday, March 3 - 9:00 am-2:30pm
Overview of the Framework - Overarching Themes of Inquiry

The Framework encourages content to be organized around large, thematic inquiry questions that help define and shape instruction. This inquiry focuses and unifies instruction at hte course, unit and lesson levels. Thematic course-long questions can help define student-led projects in their classrooms and thier broader communities.

Session 2 - Tuesday, April 3 - 8:30am-2:30pm
Historical Thinking - Developing Critical and Reflective Thinkers

Citical thinking and historical analysis, necessary for effective social action, is prioritized alongside content acquisition in teh new Framework. Participants will leave with an adaptable model lesson that explicitly targets historical thinking skills.

Session 3 - Wednesday, April 25 - 8:30am-2:30pm
Lesson Planning for Critical Thinking and Engagement

With an emphasis on the implication of the Framework on unit design and lesson planning, this session will provide a model for curriculum planning that connects current issues with historical content, context, and analysis.
