A bracing exploration of love, life, laughter, and longing, this festival of short plays celebrates some of the most important and innovative playwrights of the 20th Century. The authors are Cuban, French, British, Irish, and American. Their plays, written between 1913 and 1992, share an astonishing use of the English language. Fornes snapshots of a love affair infected by violence; Steins gaming of melodrama, and foray into the morass of what happened; Ionescos logorrheic deconstruction of the mundane; Parks' darkly comic collisions of rules of engagement; and Beckett and Pinters trios, where three people, spatially confined, measure their lives each of them entertains, and unsettles how we see the world.
