MONTARlaBestia

MONTARlaBestia (Riding the Beast) Art Exhibition

Exhibit - Painting | July 11 – August 10, 2017 every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday & Friday | 1-5 p.m. |  2334 Bowditch (Center for Latin American Studies)

Center for Latin American Studies, The Mexican Museum, The Mexican Consulate of San Francisco

The MONTARlaBestia (“Riding the Beast”) art exhibition by the Colectivo de Artistas Contra la Discriminación (Artist Collective Against Discrimination) is a moving and visually stunning response to “La Bestia” – a train that carries up to half a million Central American migrants a year on a dangerous journey across Mexico towards the United States. Through art and poetry, this exhibition explores the meaning of “riding the beast.”

Recently, the topics of walls and deportations, in a context of often xenophobic rhetoric, have focused national and international attention on the southern border of the United States. The Center for Latin American Studies (CLAS) feels this a critical moment to engage in dialogue with people from both sides of the border. 0

The exhibit will be hosted at the Center for Latin American Studies at UC Berkeley (2334 Bowditch Street), in collaboration with the Mexican Museum and Mexican Consulate of San Francisco. It will be open July 11 thru August 10, Tuesdays thru Fridays, 1pm-5pm, or by appointment (to schedule an appointment, call 510-642-2088 or email inogueira@berkeley.edu).
