Perhaps the purest expression of one of Porumboiu’s favorite themes, rules vs. freedom, Infinite Football documents an unassuming bureaucrat with a unique extracurricular passion. Inspired by a life-changing injury he suffered playing soccer as a teen, Laurentiu Ginghină embarked on a quixotic quest to improve the game. Variety’s Jessica Kiang observes, “His endlessly evolving ideas for revolutionizing football are not a blueprint for a real-world solution at all. Instead they represent that intensely relatable and human place inside, where any of us, however small our lives and crushed our ambitions, can be limitless, unhobbled by injury, unfettered by ordinariness, unbounded by physics: infinite.”
