The Serbian Poetic Word: 17th Annual Peter N. Kujachich Lecture in Serbian and Montenegrin Studies
Lecture | April 25 | 5-7 p.m. | Alumni House, Toll Room
Most poetry is not equipped for a world in which people actually die. But some is. These words, attributed to the great poet Czesław Miłosz, come to mind when one thinks of Serbian poetry. The lecture explores what it is that makes the poetic word and especially the Serbian poetic word so powerful. By examining the ways in which the poetry of their language has sung to Serbs throughout their history, it attempts to show how their great poets have equipped them to live in a world in which people actually die.
