Finnish Influence: From the California Gold Rush to Silicon Valley Innovations

Michel Wendell will discuss the strong influence Finland has had in Northern California since the Gold Rush days. He will highlight the innovative Finnish spirit strongly represented in the high tech world and share Finland's current achievements in Silicon Valley and in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Michel Wendell is a co-founder and general partner of Nexit Ventures, a venture fund focusing on wireless and mobile opportunities. Nexit was started in 2000, manages about $180M and has offices in Helsinki and San Francisco. Having earned his EE degree, Mr. Wendell left his native Finland in 1985 and eventually landed in Silicon Valley in 1996.
He currently also serves as the Honorary Consul of Finland in the San Francisco Bay Area. He is a member of IES' external advisory board.
