Beer vs Brueghel – The Belgian Paradox

In his talk, Sven Gatz will speak about the important legacy of Flemish/Belgian culture. He will pay attention to Flanders' rich history as a center of art (symbolized by the painter Brueghel) as well as to Flanders' popular culture (symbolized by the famous beer culture).

Sven Gatz is a Flemish politician and the current Minister for Culture, Youth, Media and Brussels in the government of the Flemish Community in Belgium. Gatz studied Law at the University of Louvain. From 1999 to 2011 he was member of the Flemish Parliament for the Liberal Party. In 2011, he left politics to become director of the Union of Belgian Brewers. In July 2014, he returned to politics when he became Flemish Minister for Culture, Youth, Media and Brussels.
