ORIAS Graduate Student Speakers Bureau Information Session
Information Session | September 15 | 3:15-4:30 p.m. | 510 UC Berkeley Extension (Golden Bear Center)
Attention Graduate Students:
Do you want to share your academic passions while developing vital teaching and public speaking skills? Come learn about the ORIAS Speakers Bureau and how you might share your academic interests with young audiences. Last year's participants collectively addressed almost 1000 students, from middle school to community college.
The ORIAS Speakers Bureau is now entering its second year and seeking additional graduate student participants to bring their knowledge and experiences into Bay Area classrooms. The program aims to:
provide students at different stages of their graduate career with transferable public speaking skills,
train students to translate their research and specialized knowledge for broader audiences,
bring specialized content knowledge into k-14 classrooms,
model passion for intellectual engagement for younger students, and
help k-14 students see connections between curiosity and travel.
Graduate students across disciplines are welcome, so long as their topic of interest is based in one or more of the regions associated with participating UCB Area Studies Institutes (Center for African Studies, Center for Latin American Studies, Center for Middle East Studies, Center for Southeast Asian Studies, Institute for East Asian Studies, Institute for European Studies, Institute of Slavic, East European and Eurasian Studies, and Institute for South Asian Studies)
