A Conversation with The Hunting Ground Producer Amy Ziering at the Berkeley Forum: The Hunting Ground: Lessons from the Frontlines of Sexual Assault On Our Campuses

Seminar | March 8 | 6-7:30 p.m. |  Anna Head Alumnae Hall (2537 Haste St.)

The Berkeley Forum, Townsend Center for the Humanities

One of the most pressing issues on college campuses today is the prevalence of sexual assault, and how it is handled by the administration. A White House task force found that one in five students is a victim of sexual assault during their college years, and the ACLU estimates 95% of campus rapes go unreported. Many students allege that their universities are unwilling to help them press charges against their attackers in order to preserve the university's brand and reputation. Amy Ziering, producer of The Hunting Ground, will discuss why this problem exists and what can be done to combat it.

Amy Ziering is a producer known for her poignant documentaries. She collaborates with director Kirby Dick on projects such as the Emmy-nominated film Outrage, a documentary about secretly LGBT politicians campaigning against the LGBT community, and the Oscar-nominated film The Invisible War, discussing the prevalence of rape in the US military. In 2015, Ziering and Dick released The Hunting Ground, a documentary spotlighting the epidemic of rape on college campuses and the related cover-ups that universities are complicit in. The film received widespread acclaim, and Ziering won the PGA Awards' Stanley Kramer Award for her work on it. She has also won many other honors for her investigative journalism, including two News Emmys.

This event is co-sponsored by the Townsend Center for the Humanities and the Department of Gender and Women's Studies.
