Bãtchìt Around the Bay: Collaborative Conversations about South Asian Art and Culture

Social Event | March 3 | 6-9 p.m. |  San Jose Museum of Art

110 South Market Street, San Jose, CA 95113

Center for South Asia Studies, San Jose Museum of Art, Asian Art Museum, Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive

Inspired by the Hindi word for “conversation” and the Japanese presentation model of pecha kucha, Bãtchìt Around the Bay (pronounced baatcheet), is a series of rapid-fire, fast-paced, and energetic multi-media presentations on contemporary South Asian culture from fashion to film by scholars, curators, students, visual and performance artists, collectors, art enthusiasts, and members of the bay area community.

On this particular evening, witness the launch of this new year-long series, and enjoy Bollywood-style beats from India, specialty cocktails, creative art experiences, and social networking in Art Rage - San Jose Museum of Arts' popular after-hours event.

Stop by after work, have a drink, and meet up with friends. DJ Salim will spin Bollywood-style beats. Get hands on and DIY Art. Learn Bhangra dance steps, get a Mehendi tattoo, and explore Indian art, film, and pop culture in the Bãtchìt presentations. Plus be inspired by the portraits of Robert Mapplethorpe and take your own photo in the studio.

RSVP and invite your friends on Facebook here.

This program is the first in the series Bãtchìt Around the Bay, a project of the South Asian Art Collective that will include Bãtchìt events at the University of California Berkeley’s Center for South Asia Studies and the Asian Art Museum, San Francisco, in 2011–12.
