CEE Leadership Seminar Series - Leadership in Civil/Structural Engineering Careers

Lecture | February 26 | 4-5 p.m. | Sutardja Dai Hall, Banatao Auditorium

 Jim Malley, Degenkolb Engineers

 Computers & Structures, Inc.

Where can your CEE degree take you? Hear from alumnus Jim Malley as he reflects on pivotal moments in his career and best practices for new graduates!

Careers in Civil/Structural Engineering offer many opportunities for leadership roles. They can range from very individual/personal leadership in the form of mentoring of younger engineers, to company-wide roles such as Project Manager, Principal, Office Director, Regional Director, Vice President and President/CEO, to industry leadership roles for technical organizations such as ASCE, ACI, AISC and other standards writing bodies, and even to political leadership at the local and state levels. The path to professional leadership is a very personal one and generally is the result of a high level of commitment and passion for the success of the people and organizations interacted with by the engineer.

Leadership is often challenging but also provides the opportunity for a great deal of personal satisfaction. This presentation will focus on Malley's personal leadership journey, sharing lessons learned and suggestions for how one can begin a path toward professional leadership.
