Concerts in the Redwood Grove: Ramon and Jessica + Gojogo

Performing Arts - Music | July 18 | 5:30-7:30 p.m. | UC Botanical Garden, Redwood Grove

Botanical Garden

RAMON & JESSICA
Ramon & Jessica, a boy-girl duo from San Francisco, write deceptively simple songs on the edge of folk and pop. On their exquisite early albums, Ramon & Jessica and Handyman’s Honeymoon, violinist Dina Maccabee and multi-instrumentalist Jesse Olsen achieved an uncanny lockstep with sophisticated harmonies, bold arrangements and subtle lyrics. Then Jesse moved to the desert, forcing the pair to conspire at a distance. With their third album Fly South, the newly reunited pair have produced their closest collaboration yet, working their signature toy piano and Casio keyboards into a rich texture provided by a number of the Bay Area’s finest musicians. Whether they are singing about love, death, the weather—or nothing at all—Ramon & Jessica will disarm your heart, and delight your mind.

GOJOGO (with Russian Animation!)
Gojogo is an unusual quartet that combines the Western sounds of classical and jazz with the rhythmic traditions of India. Celebrating 10 years, they are dedicated to creating innovative music that is accessible and captivating. The result is a sound that defies the borders of any specific genre. Their latest album 28,000 Days, released on the Porto Franco Record label in 2011, received a four-star review from Down Beat magazine, among many other accolades. The album commemorates a decade of musical growth and chronicles tracks that have been featured in music, film and dance performances throughout the Bay Area and beyond Gojogo received grants from American Composers Forum and San Francisco Friends of Chamber Music in 2009 to perform original scores to Russian animated short films. They will close the set with their original composition and screening of award-winning animated film Hedgehog in the Fog.
