Meeting Conservation with Anand Varma: Hosted by Society for Conservation Biology- Berkeley Chapter: Photography and "Sciencetelling" Workshop

Workshop | November 17 | 4-6 p.m. | 2063 Valley Life Sciences Building

Anand Varma, Freelance Photographer, National Geographic

Society for Conservation Biology- Berkeley Chapter

In the Society for Conservation Biology's 'Meeting Conservation' series, we invite Bay Area scientists to share their non-academic career paths and experiences for students interested in conservation.

On Friday Nov 17 from 4-6pm in 2063 Valley Life Sciences Building, we welcome Anand Varma, natural history freelance photographer who has worked with National Geographic on numerous projects. With a background in ecology and animal behavior, Varma is passionate about helping scientists to communicate their work. He has years of experience illuminating complex conservation issues and illustrating dynamic ecological stories through photography. Recently, Varma has used his intimate photo documentation of honeybee metamorphosis and hive invasion by Asian mites to tell a compelling story of current threats to honeybees and other pollinators.

This workshop will involve small group activities, as well as an opportunity for attendees to ask Anand Varma about his current and past photography experiences, career path, and advice for early career scientists.
