Family Math: Creating Partnerships with Parents Through Mathematics

Come learn fun, engaging, hands-on mathematics activities to help all your parents understand the changes that the new California’s Common Core State Standards in Mathematics (CA-CCSSM) will bring to classroom instruction and district/state assessments.

Mathematics topics will include number and operations in base 10 and fractions, operations and algebraic thinking, and geometry. Parents will understand how the Standards for Mathematical Practice impact classroom instruction and create access for all students.

You will leave prepared to lead classes with families. Recruitment strategies, advertisement, and materials production will also be shared.

Who should attend?
Any teacher, parent, or adult wishing to improve mathematics education in their community. We encourage you to come in teams; bring a colleague or parent to this valuable workshop

This two-day workshop includes activities and experiences to:

* Exemplify Mathematical Practices from the CA-CCSSM
* Model mathematical reasoning and conceptual understanding
* Engage and hands-on for diverse families
* Address mathematics concepts many children find troublesome
* Focusing on College and Career readiness

Participants will receive 1 book, handouts, parking, lunch, and morning refreshments.
