The U.S. at the Cassandra Crossing: False Prophecies of America's Decline

In this lecture, Dr. Josef Joffe will confront prophecies of American decline. The rising power of the European Union and Asia notwithstanding, Dr. Joffe asserts in a recent article in the journal Foreign Affairs, "the United States remains first on any scale of power that matters, whether it is economic, military, diplomatic, or cultural", all of which, he reports, are under no immediate threat of being surpassed. And, while rising states may perpetually seek to balance against the world's lone superpower, the U.S. will continue to lead and to do the heavy lifting in the International System for the foreseeable future.
