Auditions: Snowflakes, or Rare White People
Performing Arts - Theater | January 23 | 5:30-10 p.m. | Bancroft Studio (2401 Bancroft) | Note change in location
Current UC Berkeley students of any major are invited to open auditions for the TDPS production of Snowflakes, or Rare White People, a new play written by Dustin Chinn and directed by Mina Morita. The play will run April 24May 3 in The Playhouse at Zellerbach Hall.
About the Play
In 23rd Century Nueva New York, the dwindling white American population is protected by the federal government. Two of the last are brought to the Museum of Natural History as a living exhibit in the Hall of Caucasian Peoples, only to be freed by a sympathetic gift shop employee. Is society ready for their return?
Inspired by the Hall of Asian Peoples at the American Museum of Natural History and articles bemoaning the "dwindling majority" of white Americans, this cuttingly smart comedy explores American conceptions of race and ethnicity, representation, and the precarity of social status.
Students cast in the show are committing to be available for all indicated calls on the SF Master Calendar. Students who are cast must must enroll in Theater 181 for 4 units.
Sign up for an audition time beginning January 7 on the TDPS Callboard. Your audition monologue should be contemporary and no longer than two minutes. A link to an electronic audition form will be provided where you will be able to upload resume and photo. If you're unable to complete the form, please bring a headshot or recent snapshot from the shoulders up, and a resume if you have one.
