Garden Closed

Special Event | January 21 – December 15, 2020 the third Tuesday of the month every month |  UC Botanical Garden

 Botanical Garden

The garden is closed on the first and third Tuesday of every month.

Frequently asked questions:

Why is the Garden Closed two days a month?
For the safety of the public and the safety of the collection, the Garden’s horticulture staff need two days per month to complete jobs that may pose safety risks to visitors, such as dropping tree limbs, renovating paths, or controlling pests.

I’m only in Berkeley for one day from somewhere very far away and the purpose of my trip was to see the Garden! Can’t I just take a quick peek?
We are so sorry for the inconvenience and the disappointment, however, the University’s risk management policies prevent us from allowing the public into the collection today.

I see people in the Garden. Why are they allowed in and not me?
Anyone in the Garden on our First and Third Closed Tuesday is either a member of our staff or a volunteer. They have specific permission to be in the Garden today. Staff and volunteers are covered by the University’s insurance should an injury occur. The public is not.

I don’t need to see the Garden, but I have a question for a staff person. Can I speak to someone?
Because our horticulturists’ primary responsibility is to care for the collection, we have a limited ability to answer questions from the public. Plant health questions are best brought to our Sick Plant Clinic on the first Saturday of the month. The clinic is free and is run by UC staff and volunteers. For questions about programs, memberships, tours, rentals, donations, volunteering, the collection, etc. please call 510-642-7082 or email us at garden@berkeley.edu.

I would like to buy something from the Garden Shop. Since the Shop is here in the entrance, can I do that?
The Garden Shop is also closed today.

If I can’t see the Garden, are there other gardens nearby?
We suggest you visit the nearby Regional Parks Botanic Garden in Tilden Park - a collection of California native plants.

Thank you for your interest in the Garden! We hope you can return to visit again in the future when we are open to the public.
