After nearly 40 years of engagement, a "great decoupling" is underway between the United States and China. A focus on strategic competition is undermining bilateral links built up over decades in trade, investment, education and other areas. If the current trend toward superpower estrangement is carried to its conclusion, it could tear the world apart. But which side — the U.S. or China — is better placed to prevail as trade and tech wars rage? Is China set on an unstoppable course toward technological dominance?
