More than one-third of U.S. adults have obesity. Obesity epidemiology identifies the causes and consequences of obesity to inform intervention strategies. This presentation will: 1) define obesity as a metabolic phenotype; 2) present two examples of novel obesity risk factors: sleep and dietary patterns; and 3) discuss the importance of body composition to understanding obesitys role in chronic disease.
