Archaeological Illustration: Part 1
Workshop | February 17 | 1-4 p.m. | 101 2251 College (Archaeological Research Facility)
Lisa Johnson, University of California, Berkeley Department of Anthropology
This is a two-part workshop: The focus of the first workshop is to illustrate ceramic vessels (complete and incomplete) and flaked stone tools/debitage. Illustration is a time consuming procedure, but if we have time, each person should be able to pencil draw both kinds of artifacts. The second workshop will be spent tracing these technical drawing with pen and ink on velum, while discussing the various conventions for patterns/colors on a black/white illustration. Graph paper/velum will be provided. While we have rulers/calipers, please feel free to bring your own (just in case). If you have your own ceramics/lithic artifacts to illustrate, feel free to bring them in. Otherwise, samples will be provided for practice.
Registration Info: Workshops cost $50 for non-UC attendees. The workshops are free for students, faculty, and staff. Register for ARF workshops online at:
