About the exhibit:
Join us at a reception and exhibition of watercolors painted by CED alumnus John Kriken, BArch 61, FAIA, AICP, on Monday, February 6, 2017 from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. in the Wurster Hall Gallery.
In addition to wine and hors d'oeuvres, original watercolors will be available for sale along with copies of Johns book, The Sunday Afternoon Watercolor Society: San Francisco Impressions containing all the watercolor paintings in the exhibit.
All proceeds from the sale of the book will benefit the Kriken Urban Design Graduate Student Award Fund at the University of California, Berkeley.
About the artist:
John Kriken is an internationally known city planner and urban designer and the founder of SOMs San Francisco-based Urban Design + Planning Studio. He served as a general partner from 1994 to 2004 and continues today as a consulting partner. His professional experience has ranged from plans for new cities to downtowns and neighborhoods, as well as campus plans for leading corporations and universities.
Krikens work has won more than 35 national and international design awards from Progressive Architecture, the American Institute of Architects, the Urban Land Institute, and the American Society of Landscape Architects, among others. He has taught urban design at the University of California, Berkeley, Rice University, and Washington University, and has served on numerous arts and community boards, design review panels, and design award juries. He is the founding member of the 40-year-old Sunday Afternoon Watercolor Society.
Krikens book, City Building for the 21st Century, was published by Princeton Architectural Press. He is also a professor at the College of Environmental Design at University of California, Berkeley; chairs the Design Review Board of the Bay Conservation and Development Commission; is a former Art Commissioner for the City of San Francisco; and is a member of the Design Advisory Board at University of California, San Francisco.
