23andMe's research on the Genetic diversity and the African Diaspora.

Colloquium | April 25 | 12:30-2 p.m. | 223 Moses Hall

Joanna Mountain, Senior Director of Research, 23AndMe

 Center for African Studies

Abstract: Africans and peoples of African descent are underrepresented in genetics research. 23andMe has taken steps to mitigate this problem through several initiatives, including its African Genetics Project. Dr. Mountain will discuss the dual motivations underlying 23andMe's launch of this project, including improvements to its Personal Genetics Services and better understanding of movements of people during the Transatlantic slave trade.
