History-Social Science Orientation Session

Orientation | April 13 | 10 a.m.-3 p.m. |  CONTRA COSTA COUNTY Office of Education

77 Santa Barbara Road, Pleasant Hill, CA 94523

 UC Berkeley History-Social Science Project

In partnership with the Contra Costa County Office of Education, UCBHSSP will lead an orientation session on the new H-SS Framework.

A central aspect of the session and the framework is to support teachers in developing inquiry-driven courses that integrate the H-SS Standards (content and historical analysis) and Common Core Standards for Literacy in History and also integrating ELD instructional models. UCBHSSP staff will provide a one-day orientation to the History-Social Science Framework, based on our experience working with teachers in integrating this new approach to learning. Participating educators will be introduced to:

Major shifts in history-social science instruction as is outlined by the frameworks
Ways to revise existing courses so they align
Examples of best practices and examples in instruction
Time will be provided to plan for critical curricular changes.

Target Audience: K-12 educators, including administrators (site or district), instructional coaches, and classroom teachers
