IES Senior Fellow and Director of the Centre for British Politics at the University of Hull, Dr. Matt Beech FRHistS, FRSA, will speak about his new book.
The Struggle for Labour's Soul: Understanding Labour's Political Thought Since 1945 (Routledge, 2018) is a revised second edition of this well known and highly regarded volume by politicians and leading scholars of the British Labour Party.
Beech argues that given Labour's three consecutive election defeats, the rise of its most left-wing Leader, and the internal turmoil caused by Brexit the time is ripe for a reappraisal of the politics of the Labour Party.
The event is intended to be a discursive, free exchange of ideas, with time given to consider comparisons between the challenges facing the British and the American left in an era of Trump.
