Institute of East Asian Studies (IEAS)

Efforts in Taiwan to create a new identity and nation-state as part of the process of democratization have much in common with the making of new identities and nation-states in democratizing Eastern and Central Europe, especially with the dissolution of the Soviet Union, Yugoslavia and Czechoslovakia. This workshop brings together a multi-disciplinary group of scholars from the U.S., Eastern and Central Europe and Taiwan to address a set of questions that compare and contrast the trajectories in these several societies and the domestic and external challenges they face., 510-642-2809
