BareStage Presents: "Almost Maine": written by John Cariani, Directed by Panayiota Kuvetakis

Performing Arts - Theater | October 18 – 27, 2013 every Sunday, Friday & Saturday | 8-10 p.m. | César E. Chávez Student Center, Choral Rehearsal Hall in the basement of Cesar Chavez, entrance across from the Creek

ASUC (Associated Students of the University of California)

Almost, Maine tells the story of ten friends and couples one night in the mythical town of “Almost” in northern Maine on a cold winter’s night. The genre is magical-realism, yet the play is comedic, cleverly commenting both on life’s little beautie's and the times where beauties can fall short. In one scene, new lovers hold hands for the first time; in another, a hitchhiker carrying pieces of her heart in a bag bids good-bye to her dead husband; in yet another, Northern Mainers get drunk in a bar while others struggle to keep their marriage going. Through these stories, Cariani ultimately paints a charming and moving picture of the nature of love.
