Extreme Climate Events and Human Health: Special lecture by Dr. Kristie Ebi

Lecture | March 7 | 12-1 p.m. | 103 Genetics & Plant Biology Building

Dr. Kristie Ebi, PhD, MPH

Public Health, School of

Extreme events are a hot topic for both climate scientists and public health professionals. Why? There is good evidence that the frequency and strength of some disasters--such as storms, floods, landslides, extreme heat, drought, and wildfires--will be affected as climate change progresses. Low-income groups and low-income countries are likely to suffer the most severely, although high-income countries are not immune.

We are pleased to welcome Dr. Ebi to Berkeley, where she will present findings from over a decade of research on the impacts of, and adaptation to, climate change, focusing especially on implications for human health. Dr. Ebi was a Lead Author of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Fourth Assessment Report (IPCC AR4) chapter on Human Health, has 80+ publications, and has edited 4 books on climate change.
