Jazz and Improvised Music Benefit Concert: Dan Tepfer and Ben Wendel

Performing Arts - Music | March 2 | 7:15-10 p.m. |  Hertz Concert Hall

Dan Tepfer; Ben Wendel

Department of Music

A benefit concert for the Jazz and Improvised Music (JIM) Initiative featuring the duo of two rising stars in contemporary jazz from New York City: pianist DAN TEPFER & woodwind player BEN WENDEL, with an opening set by BERKELEY NU JAZZ COLLECTIVE.

Pianist/composer Tepfer, a frequent collaborator of jazz great Lee Konitz's, has been described by the New York Times as "a player of exceptional poise who is drawn to the deeper currents of melody". The LA Times has praised saxophonist/bassoonist Wendel, a founding member of the Grammy-nominated band Kneebody, as "a composer with a restless ear".

On Small Constructions, Wendel and Tepfer range from kaleidoscopic Monk and a remodeled standard to classical variations and melody-rich originals, creating a set of songs that expresses their mutual love of jazz, classical, pop and more. "A summit meeting of two steadily rising talents."

$20 general admission, $15 other students, seniors, current & retired Berkeley staff & faculty, groups of 10 or more, $10 UC Berkeley students (student ID required)

Performances subject to change without notice. Buy tickets online, or by calling 510-642-9988.
