Visiting Miller Professor: Organometallic Chemistry of Synthetic Methods

Seminar | November 17 | 11 a.m.-12 p.m. |  Pitzer Auditorium, 120 Latimer Hall

Professor John F. Hartwig, Department of Chemistry, University of Illinois, Urbana

Chemistry, Department of

Dr. Hartwig is the Kenneth L. Rinehart Jr. Professor of Chemistry at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His research focuses on the discovery and understanding of new reactions catalyzed by transition metal complexes. He has developed a series of reactions that are now widely used for the synthesis of pharmaceutical candidates, agrochemical products, and organic materials. He and his group take a particular interest in understanding the inner workings of the catalytic reactions, and these studies have revealed several new types of reactions of transition metal complexes. His textbook on Organometallic Chemistry is scheduled to be published Fall 2009.
