Dissertation Talk: Monolayer Transition Metal Dichalcogenide NanoLEDs: Towards High Speed and High Efficiency

Monolayer transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) are a class of 2D semiconductors with attractive properties for future nanoscale optoelectronics such as light sources and detectors. However, due to their single molecule thickness, they are sensitive to environmental factors such as moisture, limiting operation of most light-emitting devices to high vacuum conditions. In this talk, I will discuss pulsed injection as a way to overcome this issue and achieve bright electroluminescence in ambient conditions. In addition, I will discuss results on TMDC light emitters coupled to optical antennas to enhance spontaneous emission rate, boosting device efficiency and speed.
