Roving Ambassador Two-day Training: Saturday, February 2 and Sunday, February 10, 10:00 am- 12:00 pm
Do you love plants and nature? Do you enjoy meeting new people? Become a Roving Ambassador!
This new volunteer program provides a friendly face and information to Garden visitors throughout the Gardens 34 acres on our busiest days. Roving Ambassadors also support the safety of plants and people in the Garden. Training includes an overview of the Gardens collections, tools for engaging with the public, and information about the Garden and its programs.
We are looking for friendly plant-lovers who can volunteer at least two hours once a month on the first Wednesday of the month, weekends and/or holidays. Scheduled shifts are 10am-12pm, 12-2pm and 2pm-4pm.
We ask that volunteers meet the following requirements:
- be over the age of 18 or volunteer with an adult guardian
- are able to volunteer at least once a month for a minimum of 2 hours
-are already or can become a member at the UC Affiliate rate ($15 for students; UCB Individual $50 one year)
-can see yourself here for & commit to at least a year provided your life doesn't change dramatically
-attend a Volunteer Information Session on Thursday, January 24, 4:00-5:00 pm (please register)
-complete a volunteer application
Participants will get an overview of the Garden's collections and highlights by Interim Director, Dr. Paul Licht on training day one. Training day two will include the full Ambassador training as well as public engagement techniques for a variety of circumstances. Roving Ambassadors must also go on at least two docent-led drop-in tours (at 1:30 pm Thursday through Sunday and Free Wednesday). Rovers may also opt to be trained to give introductions to the Garden for gratis admission groups or groups of children coming to the Garden without docent-led tours.
Roving Ambassador Training will be held at the Garden on two Saturday mornings (volunteers must attend both trainings):
Saturday, February 2 from 10am-12pm - Overview of the Garden with Interim Director, Paul Licht
Sunday, February 10 from 10am-12pm - Roving Ambassador Training with staff
