The aim of the research is to present a unifying framework for information science that has hermeneutics as its foundation. Hermeneutics, a theory and methodology of interpretation, will be briefly explained, as well as how it can underlie information scienceâs basis. The research argues that a unifying framework for information science that is based on hermeneutics posits human sense-making within society at the core of the field, establishing that the question of meaning is central to the development of information services. Preliminary results will be presented.
