Performing Arts - Dance | February 9 | 8-10 p.m. | Oakland Metro Operahouse
522 2nd Street, Oakland, CA 94607
Choreographer Donald Byrd and playwright Anna Deavere Smith collaborate to bring a historic 1970 conversation on race between author James Baldwin and anthropologist Margaret Mead into the present moment in the California premiere of this acclaimed dance-theater work. A Rap on Race, named after the book published from a transcript of that meeting, combines text with movement and music to communicate the complexities of talking about race.
