 i4Y - Innovations for Youth

The Innovations for Youth (i4Y) Child Marriage and Youth Empowerment Working Group together with Bixby and UCCHI has begun a speaker series to explore challenging questions related to child marriage and youth empowerment.
Abstract of Perlman talk: A fundamental cause of gender inequality in northern Nigeria is the social bias that inhibits girls’ access to schooling and other essential capacity building opportunities. For the last decade, the Center for Girls Education (GCE)—a girls' education learning hub co-founded by Ahmadu Bello University located in in Zaria, Nigeria—has worked to advance adolescent girls' education and empowerment in the region through innovative programming, advocacy, research, and strategic partnerships. Daniel will speak about CGE's formative research on child marriage and the center's work increasing rural adolescent girls’ ability to delay marriage and expand the critical years in which they can acquire the human and social resources to better self-define and achieve their life goals.
