REDWOOD GROVE SUMMER CONCERT SERIES!
Every Thursday, June through August
Enjoy a magical music experience this summer under towering redwoods in the Berkeley hills.
Rupa & the April Fishes
Rupa and the April Fishes create a nomadic sound that defies easy categorization and pulsates with the pluralism of Bay Area culture, celebrating life and the art of resistance through a wide musical palette that pulls from over a decade of playing street parties, festivals and symphonic concerts across three continents, over three oceans, twenty-nine countries with songs in five languages. Their music is strictly organic, biodynamic, nuclear-free and decidedly unclean.
The band comes from all over the world and converge in the San Francisco area to become the April Fishes with ringleader Rupa. In their work together, musical languages converge; from punk to indie rock, from reggae to raga to rockabolly, chanson to cumbia, from Malian guitar patterns to mournful duduk melodies. In other times and places musical traditions have met to forge a sound that is more insistence than resistance; this band and their music belong to that long tradition of rebel music.
Quinn DeVeaux (solo)
Quinn DeVeaux has the smoothest yet dirty voice weve heard in decades. With all the style and subtlety of the great soul/blues singers of the earth bound golden days. His honest and telling delivery grabs you and paints a story on the wall of your mind where youll long to stay and admire the view.
The modern soul songs of Quinn Deveaux, sung in his sweet tenor over a spare guitar or carried by his bands bright tones, evoke old images aplentyfrom those gutbucket barrooms where rock-n-roll was born, to the pine-walled shacks, nearby, where its gospel-forebears rent their souls. But this artists singular sound, making old tones new, is Quinns alone.
